Five Question Friday

1. What were your school colors?
Well, I went to two different high schools (La Canada High School in La Canada, CA and Mountain View High School in Orem, UT) but they had the same colors (convenient huh!): burgundy and gold

2. What's the best compliment you ever received?
Well, this one will sound weird but it really made me feel good (and please don't think I'm a dork). My Mom and I were reading the Twilight series at about the same time and when we were talking about the books on the phone one day, she told me that she thought I was pretty enough to be a vampire. I know, it's a mother's job to say how pretty their daughter is, but it still made me feel good.

3. Do you buy cheap or expensive toilet paper?
I get Angel Soft... it's not the most expensive, but it's not the cheapest. I don't think it's worth going cheap when it comes to tp.

4. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you? Or have you had one for someone else?
I haven't had one thrown for me, but that would be so much fun! The kids in my family threw a somewhat surprise party for my parents 40th anniversary last summer. They loved it!

5. What is one material possession that you "can't live without"?
My Neutrogena face moisturizer and my tooth brush... and my mac laptop. I was about to say my Blackberry but I'm pretty sure I could live without that if I really had to. Since I have an Etsy business, I need my laptop around so I can check my email often to respond to convo's, etc.

These Make Me Smile!

Wow, this week has been crazy! I started my new job with Central Utah Clinic and so I was literally gone all day, every day for training... but today is my day off (because of the holiday tomorrow) and I finally have a little time to blog. :)

So I wanted to share my newest treasury on Etsy with everyone! Browsing though Etsy shops is one of my favorite things to do and these are some of the things that made me smile. :)

What do you think? What's something that made you happy this week?

Earring Card Tutorial

I've had a lot of people ask me how I make my earring cards and so I've decided to do a tutorial. It's really easy. Here's what you need to get started...

a rubber stamp with your logo on it. (I did my design in Illustrator and then had it made into a stamp at www.rubberstamps.net. There are other companies that make stamps like vistaprint and make sure to check out your local companies because you may get a better deal)

an ink pad. I used black, but you can use whatever color you want

scissors, a paper punch (this will make your cards the shape and size you want), and cardstock (I used an oatmeal color but you can use any color you want or even patterned paper!)

Okay, now I'm going to show you how to make your cards.

Place your stamp on the ink pad

Then press the stamp on your paper and repeat the process until your paper is full. Make sure you leave about a 1/4 inch space between each one so it'll be easier to cut them out.

Now you're going to cut them out with your paper punch. I turned my punch upside down when I was cutting them so I could see what I was doing.

Continue using your punch to cut the rest of your cards out of the paper.

Use your scissors to cut away some of the left over paper on the outside so you can get to the ones in the middle of the page.

Once they're all cut out, you just need to poke holes in them (if you're using them for earrings) and then you're done! Enjoy you're new cards, I bet they look awesome!

You don't have to make your cards look like mine, get creative and make them your own! Of course you can use a circle if you want, but you could also use a rectangle, square, heart, etc.  I've seen some really creative cards out there, here are some examples...

This one from Allora Handmade

 or these by Emily Sparks

Let me know if you have any questions, would like me to whip up a logo/stamp design for you in Illustrator, or even to show me the cards you made! I really would LOVE to see what you come up with! Have fun!

Treasury Sunday - Layers of Circles

I wanted to share my new treasury with the blogging world. I'm really fascinated by circular shapes, especially layers of circles right now and this treasury showcases some of my favorites.

What do you think? What shapes do you find yourself being drawn to? I know that's a random thing to think about, so just go with it.

I had to think about questions like that during my last semester in school. I took a "Special Topics in Painting" class and we would often talk about what forms or shapes we felt like we needed to put into our pieces. Circles were a popular choice. I started out the semester wanting to put circles on everything but then after creating one failed painting after another, I had to ask myself that question again. What shape did I feel like I needed to be creating? After much thought, I decided that it wasn't the shape that I was interested in, it was the color. So long story short, I started focusing more on color instead of shape and I had an incredibly successful semester.

Now you're probably wondering why I made a treasury and did a whole blog post on circles if they weren't working for me before. Well, I've decided to give circles another chance. I may not use them in my paintings, but I think they may find their way into my jewelry. :)

Anyways, I hope you guys had a great Sunday and thanks for checking out my treasury!
